PURPOSE The purpose of this program is to identify
emergency service personnel who demonstrate competency in the performance requirements necessary to perform the duties of
a firefighter at and beyond the Fire Fighter I level. The NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications,
identifies the minimum requirements for a person at an additional level of firefighting knowledge and competency. A person
certified at the Fire Fighter II level will have demonstrated additional competency in the necessary knowledge and skills
to function safely and effectively as a member of a firefighting team under general supervision. CERTIFICATION
PROCESS A person
submits a completed application to the Kentucky Fire Commission. The candidate shall remit the prescribed written
test sitting fee, attempt a written examination of 100 multiple choice, true/false or matching questions and participate
in a skills examination. Upon successful completion of the written and skills exams, provide all documentation, fees are submitted
and prerequisites are satisfied, the candidate shall become eligible to recieve an accredited certification from the Kentucky
Fire Commission. KNOWLEDGE AND
COMPETENCY AREAS TESTED Fire
department organization, incident management, communications and reports, fire control, salvage, overhaul, building construction, firefighting
foam, flammable liquids and gases, hose and streams, fire cause and origin, rescue and extrication, fire prevention and public
education, power generators and scene lighting. PREREQUISITES Emergency Medical Care
- as a minimum Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (professional rescuer), and First Aid or any higher level of emergency medical
certification approved by the Fire Commission. Hazardous Materials/Operations-Product
Control level accredited certification. Firefighter 1 - accredited certification and pre-requisites associated
with Firefighter 1.
